Are you looking for a fun way to bring some more interest to your yard or home? If so, join us at Iowa Arboretum for our Stone Face Workshop. We will have all of the supplies whether you want to turn your creation into a stone face planter, bookend, or wall hanging and guide you through the process. You will even get to take the reusable kit home with you! This class would be fun for adults or for children accompanied by an adult. Preregistration is required. Central Gardens of North Iowa

Central Gardens of North Iowa will hold its annual perennial plant and Bulb Sale on May 31, 2008. at the Central Gardens site. From 8 to 9 am an 'Early Bird' sale (Members Only) will be held. From 9 am to noon (or till sold out) will be the Public Sale. Bring 6 or more perennials to donate and receive a free membership or purchase one that day. Hundreds of plants available, donated by expert regional gardeners or dug from Central Gardens' own beautiful plant selection. Cost: $25.00 per person. At this second session, participants will have a midpoint check with the designer. Bring any questions you may have to the table and gear up to finish your project area! BRUCEMORE IN BLOOM: Brucemore garden staff

9:30 am; Brucemore Mansion, Cedar Rapids
Tour the blossoming gardens and lush terrain during this 90-minute specialty tour, Brucemore in Bloom. The Brucemore garden staff will trace the development of the formal garden and grounds from the original plan conceived by O. C. Simonds, a prominent Prairie Style landscape architect.  Learn about the integration of function, recreation, and entertainment that was former owner Irene Douglas’ vision for the country estate. View plants and landscape techniques the garden staff is experimenting with, while still maintaining the historically accurate design created by Simonds. Animal Tracks Hike

Bring the whole family out to the Arboretum Monday, June 23, as we go for a hike through the woods looking for animal tracks. We will be learning about different types of tracks and how to tell the differences between them. And for the icing on the cake, we will be making our very own plaster casts of some animal tracks that we find. Participants will want to make sure they are wearing long pants and lots of bug spray!

This is an upscale event with music, dancing, entertainment and delicious food and drink, surrounded by the striking beauty of the Gardens.
On Saturday, June 28 the Tour of Homes & Gardens takes place, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit 6 beautiful local homes and gardens and view stunning quilts made by talented area quilters. Did you know that less then 0.1 of 1% of Iowa’s prairies exist today? Would you like to learn more interesting facts about prairies? If so, join us as we hike through the Arboretum’s 4-plus acres of reconstructed prairie. We’ll see plants like rattlesnake master, mountain mint, indian grass, and many, many others. You will not want to leave your camera at home as the prairie should be in full bloom! We will talk about plant identifications, prairie management, and landscaping with native plants.
